Fairfax, Virginia – August 20, 2019 – The founders of the Afghan Special Mission Air Wing and MAG Aerospace are one in the same. Before the founding of MAG Aerospace, MAG CEO Joe Fluet was called back to US Army active duty to establish an Afghan special operations aviation unit in 2003.  Joe spent years recruiting, training, and mentoring the Afghans until his retirement in 2009.  In 2014, MAG was sought out to continue this mission and became an integral part of the unit formally named the Afghan Special Mission Air Wing (ASMAW) that consisted of Mi-17 and PC-12 aircraft.

MAG’s commitment to building Afghan capability continues today by providing dedicated training and logistics support to the US Army’s Multi-National Aviation Special Project Office (MASPO) that is charged with building Afghan capacity for the ASMAW and Afghan Air Force.  MAG support has extended to providing mentoring and logistics support for the newly received Afghan UH-60 Black Hawks in addition to ongoing support of the Mi-17 and PC-12 fleet currently in operation.
